The Thinking Behind
the Project:2
by Robert Ford

According to Ron Glover, Royce Young had found several in a canyon north of Kanab while leading boy scouts on hikes.  Ron and I went to the canyon and photographed several marks.

My theory with the spring equinox and Anasazi calendar went out the window as these were pointing in several directions.  As far as the sacrificial altar, many poor souls must have been dispatched at these sites.  I've not heard of any archaeological evidence supporting sacrificial rituals among the peoples of this area.  I went to Alton, Utah and talked with Royce and got information on a few more.  Royce had published a small pamphlet on these.

Close to sunset one evening, Bruce and I were standing by his ranch house when again he mentioned the strange circles on the nearby knoll.  Robert Burrows, Rod Lathim, and I went to check out Bruce's mark.  After looking at it, I remembered that Bruce had described this doubled circle variation to me almost thirty years earlier.

Burrows and I soon realized we had also looked at it again, back in the mid 70's.  We quickly located eight more marks along the ridge.  Bruce said he had seen this mark while exploring his father's homestead back in the 20's.

Don Hanrion, Bruce's nephew, described another mark on the same ridge just across the fence from his father's place.  Don and his brother Francis had found it during the late thirties as young boys hunting rabbits on the ridge.

Dixon Spendlove and I went to investigate, and the mark was right where Don had described it to be.  We couldn't believe we had missed it, our old footprints passed within feet of it.  This made a total of ten marks on the ridge...
